Jeanne is! (pronounced "jee-nee" as in I dream of...) Anyway, this Pennsylvania native learned to bake from her mother Lois-Jean whose German and French ancestors conveniently passed down the "Baking Goddess Gene" to her. Jeanne loves to cook and especially loves to bake which is a good thing when you own a bakery.
Jeanne is what you would describe as "self taught." No time for culinary school while being a den mother, soccer mom, school board chairperson and dozens of other community activities. As her husband, our two sons and I have been the grateful recipients of many baking experiments and taste testings throughout the years. We were lucky to have her all to ourselves and we knew it.
For several years Jeanne honed her skills and perfected many recipes while operating a bakery/deli in a small town located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire where the people "live free or die." (State motto FYI). New Englanders are pretty picky about their baked goods and are full of helpful tips and warm words of encouragement (are you getting my sarcasm here?) Anyway, suffice it to say she learned from some tough cookies! The best ingredients make the best baked goods.
After 12 New England winters and knowing what a talent that lay next to me every night it was time to conquer the West. Besides, it's friggin' cold there! We stocked up on the sunscreen, bottled water and Vaseline Intensive Care lotion and scouted for a place with the fewest good bakeries and voila, here we are!
